IEC 60079-17 says:

"A skilled personnel shall be provided with sufficient training to enable familiarity with the installation which they attend. This training shall include any plant, equipment, operational or environmental conditions which relate to their understanding of the needs of the explosion protection of equipment. Where any alterations or changes to the process or installation are effected this information shall be provided to the skilled personnel in a manner which supports their function as part of the continuous supervision process.

Where necessary, training in the concepts of continuous supervision shall be provided

together with refresher or reinforcement seminars.

The knowledge requirements of the technical person with executive function shall include a full understanding of the provisions of IEC 60079-10-1, IEC 60079-10-2, IEC 60079-14, and IEC 60079-19 in relation to area classification and/or EPLs and selection, erection, installation, repair and reclamation of equipment."
