Many of the cases an Ex technician and an Ex supervisor is the same person.

Shall they go for a separate training? Is there any difference?

Few comments here:

- any Ex personnel competency training is a further education

- if you look at IEC 60079-14/-17 around 2/3 is the same ...

For sure there shall be differences (E.g: practical, hazardous area classification, level of inspections, etc) but many points are to be about the same topic: Ex compliance, applicable technical solutions, ...)

Last but not least we can say 2 competencies (technician, supervisor) in one makes sense.

Citation from IEC 60079-14:2013 4.5:

"Competency can be demonstrated in accordance with a training and assessment framework relevant to national regulations or standards or user requirements."
